I learn something new almost every day in this job. I’ve been here in North Texas for almost four years now and never knew we had a couple of ELCA-affiliated retirement communities in Denton. I knew about Sunset Homes in Clifton but not about the Good Samaritan communities to our North — Good Samaritan Lake Forest Village and Denton Village.
On Monday, I was invited to visit the Lake Forest site by Pr. Ken Hovland, an ELCA pastor who serves as chaplain on site. I was very impressed with the range of homes available — duplexes, cottages, independent living apartments, assisted living, and skilled nursing care & rehab. Some of the newest duplexes (or Twins, as they call them) are beautiful, large homes. The staff attention is excellent, as is the spiritual care, and both sites are rated “Best in Denton” repeatedly.
The benefit of living in a community with all levels of care is huge. I know my aunt and uncle lived in a similar village in Wisconsin and utilized every level. So did some of my parishioners in Milwaukee. If you haven’t checked out Good Samaritan, you should!
